Auchentoshan Heartwood 1l Bottling Note

Released for travel retail, the Auchentoshan Heartwood is made with triple distilled single malt Scotch whisky which has been matured in both Oloroso Sherry casks and bourbon casks, resulting in a very well balanced expression from the Lowland distillery.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Fresh honey and candied orange peels, with hints of dark coffee and pear drops.

Palate: Nuttier than the nose, it's got a core of hazelnut and almond, surrounded by chocolate buttons, apple and fresh ground coffee again.

Finish: Dried fruit and citrus lasts.

Auchentoshan Heartwood 1l Reviews

👍😎🥃

I like it...I'm not an expert, but it tastes good to me. A nice mellow Whisky imho. 👍🥃

A great whisky and worth the money!

I believe some of these 1star reviews are foolhardy at best... This is a genuinely very pleasant whisky, very drinkable and lasting and full of flavour. For somewhere to compare with Famous Grouse...well, it’s like comparing Camembert with Dairylea!!
Also, they’re charging £63 in World Duty Free so the price on here is very good indeed!

Interesting, unusual, glad I got it

The nose/aroma is raisins, to me. Tasted quite a bit of that, as well as apricot. When I added an ice cube it improved the finish for me quite a bit. I got it while traveling through Heathrow. I wouldn’t rush to buy another bottle but it makes me curious about trying other Auchentosan whiskies.

Unique in its own way

Not for idiots who drink single malt with water or soda!

Best whisky

Looks like the reviews are given totally baised! Some are paid against suntory brand. An amazing whisky to taste, smooth palate, triple distilled and 43% alcohol. Light whisky and a perfect option for person switching to single malt.

whisky ???

I can't give this one any rating. It's sooooo bad. Received a 6cl. sample yesterday and even this small bottle won't be finished. This has nothing to do with whisky!

V drinkable

I’m normally an Islay drinker but have been experimenting with some of their different cask finishes & quite enjoyed them so thought I’d give this a spin when I saw it. I like it. It’s very drinkable and an easy break from heavier whiskies, which I can take a fair amount of time to drink. I don’t know Auchentosh as well as others so may be not to the purists taste but it’s an easy, tasty whisky that even my wife will sip (and she’s not a fan of whisky).

A joke

Must be a joke. Smells like newly distilled alcohol. No information about how long it's been matured and I guess the cherry cask has been used only for colour.

Get a Famous Grouse intead for a third of the price

Highly recommended

This is my wife's and also my favorite whiskey!

Cheap

Sweet and cheap but not value for money. No complexion, just bad. Cant finish the bottle.

You continue to surprise me

This one might not be everyone's cup of tea, but you need to consider the process and, what I can only describe as, the desired result: a complex and candied single malt.

Having the ability to read is a wonderful thing. Having read the box, I had an idea of what this whiskey would be like and I'm not disappointed. If innovation rubs you the wrong way or you're a die-hard puritan then this won't appeal to you. If you're open to exploration and a redefinition of a fun, fine whiskey then I suggest you try this one.

I don't believe Auchentoshan knows how to make a bad whiskey. I hope they never prove me wrong.

I like it!

Reviews are very subjective, but personally, I love the taste and atoms of this!

27th August 2016

Terrible

Weird woody sugary taste. This is worse than a Glenfiddich. It may actually be the worst malt I have ever tasted. What were you even thinking?

25th July 2016

Sweet

I quite like this one, i can see it has gotten some bad reviews but the sweetness of it really appeals to me, I think it's a great whisky, fruity but some how still "dark" and quite delicious.

One to miss.

Oh dear, how can my local distillery do this? It's the triplewood with some old junk casks added. Really shocked that this stuff was called Auchentoshan. The staff must be scunnered by what Suntori tell them to do.

Pleasant-ish

My first impression was that it was Triple Wood with some older sherry and assorted casks added at the end of their three fill life. Not great from my local distillery. It's ok, but there's many better at a lesser price.

Nikhil Shah

it's a Super Malt, a must have in your bar.

Great nose unusually complex... a good drink

Airport version of the available Auchentoshan. It has a rich nose with notes of chocolate, rosewood, molasses. The complexity is addictive and I couldn't help spending more time that usual in admiring it. The tasting notes had plum, peaches and it culminated with a short finish of dry fruits. For me it's the nose that really stands out. Otherwise a smooth drink.
