Auchentoshan American Oak Bottling Note

From the Auchentoshan distillery in the Scottish Lowlands comes a triple distilled single malt Scotch whisky aged entirely in first fill American oak casks. A light, bright whisky with plenty of vanilla sweetness at its centre - great as an aperitif dram.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Oranges and lemons, toffee chunks and milk chocolate. Wafts of grassy air and clotted cream.

Palate: Bounty bars, more citrus peels and peaches. A little bit buttery, with golden barley and oak spice developing on the mid palate.

Finish: Lasting notes of grapefruit and toffee pennies.

Auchentoshan American Oak Reviews

so,so-beginners single malt designed for the younger palate and budget

not bad ,but not great-for the price it is ok-but probably wont buy again.

It is in the name: OAK!

There are almost oak splinters in the thing! The first two drinks were a bit bitter, but like pretty much all single malts, it decants into another scotch. This scotch opens up to an oaky, buttery, peppery masterpiece. It belongs in your scotch bar. Their 12 is also worthy: polite, warm, and wonderful!!!

Pleasantly surprised, a nice dram with a changing character

This is my first try with this Whisky (the name put me off as I couldn't pronounce it 🙄). I'm very pleasently surprised. It's light, airy, buttery followed by citrus bitterness. Then once swallowed comes a rush of spice and a long peppery burn. I like it 😁

Bitter

Mine was unpleasantly bitter. Maybe it was from a bad batch but it certainly wasn’t the smooth, wast drinker I was expecting

I thought it was nice

I’m surprised at some of the negative reviews. I found this whisky to be really nice. I detected toffee and dark chocolate.

About 5 years into discovering Whiskies, and this Lowlands tipple is one I’ve been looking forward to trying, and it does not disappoint. If, like me, you’re on a Whisky journey, give it a go and don’t be put off by some of the negative comments. A v

Alcohol Burn destroys flavours.

Quite pleasant on the nose (a powerful sniff will burn your nose). Hint of coconut, woody and a hint of citrus.. The taste however is very bitter and an unpleasant alcohol burn at the end destroys any flavours with a slight citrus-y hit at the very end. One of my least favourite whiskys.

Oily. Slightly off-putting. Industrial.

Rather oily and dirty tasting pallet. Industrial. Interesting citrus late pallet with grassy finish.

Pretty poor

When I was a lad I once syphoned some petrol from my car, to fuel my four-stroke motor mower. I accidentally got a mouthful of petrol and then, after my first glass of Auchentoshan, I instantly relived the petroleum taste experience. Auchentoshan had hints of either that or mouthwash.
I travel to New Zealand every year, where the inbound duty free allowance is three litres, so over the years, I have sampled a lot.
I think, lads in the distillery, it's back to the drawing board with this one. Meanwhile I'll keep my nearly full bottle for guests who drink whisky with Coca Cola.

Easy drinking

The whisky for people who don't drink whisky. Not that that's a bad thing! Smooth and easy drinking, with grass and caramel notes. It's nothing special, but does its job at a great price.
