Arran The Bothy - Batch 1 Bottling Note

Matured in ex-bourbon barrels (various vintages) and finished for 18 months in American oak quarter casks for greater interaction. Bothy harks back to the 18th and 19th centuries on the Isle of Arran when smaller casks were favoured for logistical reasons, whilst delivering gorgeous vanilla and spice flavours. It's also bottled at a natural cask strength of 55.7% abv without chill-filtration or artificial colouring. 12,000 bottles have been released.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Producer's Tasting Note:
Nose: A warm and comforting aroma greets the nose. Sandalwood spice and smells of the outdoors; sweet malty barley and damp oak. Aromas of waxy lemons, melting cane sugar and a hint of cocoa promise intense and complex flavours to follow.
Palate: A luscious, sweet mouthfeel adheres to the palate as a kick of red chilli heat arrives and starts to warm. Distillery character shines as fresh pineapple and green apples with stalks attached come to the fore. Toasted brioche and vanilla ice cream give a round quality to this dram.
Finish: A floral note at the start of a finish which lingers on the palate as tangy citrus notes develop to make the mouth water, bringing the flavour full circle; inciting another sweet sip.

Arran The Bothy Quarter Cask - Batch 1 Reviews

Surprisingly wonderful...

Upon opening the bottle, an oaky snd buttery scent greets the nose. Once you swallow it, the vanilla and somewhat cinnamon taste fills the mouth. Arran is good at aroma magic.

Rich, velvety vanilla, toffee and toasted oak. Divine!

Rich, velvety toffee and vanilla with toasted oak. Divine!

The Bothy is quite simply one of the greatest whiskeys you will ever have the pleasure of tasting. On first whiff toasted oak and sweet syrup fills your nose. Sipping it introduces that heat the master taster refers to - but it isn't overpowering; it builds with each sip. Vanilla and toffee flavours sweep across the palate and the whiskey has a more pleasantly viscous property to it than other whiskeys.

An excellent evening scotch!

With a touch of water, this is an absolute delicious full bodied scotch! Will be buying another bottle after I finish this one.

The Nose; Remarkably light & unassuming considering the strength. Wood, Oak, Raw Sugar. Young Pears & granny smith apples. Very light vanilla... You can sense the body hiding away under the mellow surface.

The Taste; At first a mellow smoothness, slight alcohol burn- surprising once again... but add some WATER! Only a drop and this comes alive. Young sanded smooth American Oak, Soft bourbon, very mild tobacco, mild red chilli, Spice, oil, Balm, white chocolate, truly warming.

The Finish; Medium length. The delicate fruits start the ending then the soft spice takes over. Very mouth watering, a great sipping dram. Full bodied & mature dram!

Bartlomiej

It was ok, but the typical Arran caracter of tropical fruits and citrus was gone. Probably of the use of quartercask, its more leaning towards vanilla and honey now. a bit mainstream.

A Wee Gem

A lovely wee whisky, especially when sat beside a log fire. Make sure to add some water. A wee gem indeed!
