Arran - Batch 4 Bottling Note

The fourth batch of Arran single malt Scotch whisky bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company is another delicious island dram from the distillers on the Isle of Arran!

The label once again features the artist, Emily Chappell, and a friend stranded on a desert island after an ill-fated kayaking trip. It seems like they've been there long enough to start making the island feel like home, as they've gone and put up a Christmas tree! However, not even their Christmas cheer and cries of help to the Waverley cruise ship can deter an intrepid eagle, who seems intent on swiping their whisky!

Batch 4 is a release of 1,270 bottles.

‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains, blended malts, blends and bourbons from a variety of renowned distilleries. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic-novel-style labels.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Buttered hot-cross buns with plenty of sultanas, Refresher Bars, a little bit of rye spice and a whiff of coastal air. A drop of water brings creamy vanilla to the fore.

Palate: It opens with white grape, citrus and pineapple, which is swiftly joined by some rather powerful spicy malt and cinnamon. Cake icing (and a good chunk of cake too) gives balance on the mid palate.

Finish: Quite grassy and herbaceous on the finish, with orange blossom appearing right at the end.

Overall: Flavoursome with a good bit of power behind it, this is a delightful Arran single malt.

First time I had a chance to test something out of the destillery on Arran, this was quite good! oddly fruity, citrus? cant really relate it to anything but overall it works out well. Oh and its quite creamy and has a nice texture to it which I like!

    Packs a punch

Ahh my first Boutique-y whisky and whoa from the first sip you can tell it means serious business. The high ABV comes through with a fruity/citrus taste along with some caramel. The finish packs a punch of pepper/spice and some hints of orange. It has a decent length finish which is really warming so perfect for the cold winter months and the high ABV doesn't dominate the flavour although I did find a little water helped release the flavours a bit more.

    Fragrant, honeyed, perfumed and delightful

I love a good independent bottling and this really hits the mark for me. Lots of sweet ginger spice with christmas cake, acacia honey and cream soda aromas fill the air around this dram. Grapefruit and marmalade notes on the palate a slight drop of water unveils further hidden complexity. There is a mild salty, briney note that appears to pull flavour after flavour along my palate with notes of toffee, dried apricot, cocktail cherries and even crystalised angelica. It's actually quite a profound experience for is, I guess a relatively young spirit the weight matching really well with the spirit to give a terrifically balanced malt.

    Grape and pinapple

Very fruity, and light. Similar to Glen Grant. Good but not great.

    A Fresh & Lively Expression

Nose: Citrus oil, sherbert lemons, vanilla, a touch of Summer cologne, some fresh mint and warm buttered scones.

Palate: A fresh arrival including notes of citrus zest, a mixed tropical fruit salad, some hot spice and vanilla.

Finish: A long and relatively floral finish, with notes of candied lemon, boiled sweets and some cologne fading away in the distance.

    Arran - Batch 4

Nose: botanicals, raisins, cinnamon. Palate: very pleasant - citrus, grapefruit, malt, vanilla, samphire, marzipan. Finish: quite quick - hay, orange, allspice. It goes down very smoothly for its strength.
