The Machrie Moor single malt from Arran is named after a mysterious peat bog on the west coast of the Isle of Arran. The landscape is dotted with standing stones and Bronze Age stone circles. It sounds like the perfect place to sit, reflect and enjoy some peated whisky from the Arran distillery. The barley used for the 4th batch of Machrie Moor had a peating level of 20PPM.
Nose: Bright notes of slightly sharp pineapple and and tropical fruits, blended with the deep, earthy peat. They actually go together quite nicely!
Palate: Smoky and rich. Definite peat influence comes through in this one. Sweet citrus, vanilla and a drop of honey swirl underneath.
Finish: The vanilla and smoke continue on the finish.
Overall: Lovely peated whisky from the Isle of Arran.
