Arran Amarone Cask Bottling Note

The 2010 released Amarone finish from Arran. This has a similar style to the brilliant Sassicaia finish. Amarone is dry Italian red made using partially dried Corvina grapes, Rondinella grapes and Molinara.

Arran Amarone Cask Finish Reviews

Very good

Absolutely lovely dram (or several!). Really enjoyed the strong flavour and no need for any water based additives in my humble opinion (from an Islay peat fan)

Arron have a very good selection of fine whisky, haven’t found one I’m disappointed with yet

Being honest I picked this because my local wine merchant didn’t have any Arran Port Cask Finished in stock. Both are quit high in alcoholic content at 50% a dab of water is needed in my view. The Amerone is sharper than the Port finish... which is a little smoother still in need of a little water though. Not a bottle to drink one your own. Invite some friends who appreciate a decent scotch.

It spent 8 years in ex bourbon casks and only 9 months in amarone casks. It's really only a finish, maybe it should spend some much time.
The amarone can be detected more in the colour than in the flavour, but it leaves its mark in any case.
I recommend it with some water since it has a high alcholic gradation and the alcol tends to cover its great flavour and aroma.

Quite good for its price and something to try!

GREAT - very balanced and complex Whisky

Nose: cinnamon, floral and fruity, sherry and red-wine, slightly bitter and dry
Palate: very smooth and elegant with notes of plum, cherry and cinnamon
Finsih: red-wine, herbs and dry
All in All: I like Arran very much but this bottle is one of the best. It combined the strength and deepness from Arran with the elegent character of Amarone-Casks

Superb - one of the best at the price point... Wish it weren't discontinued!

If I were only allowed 5 whiskeys for the rest of my life this would be one of them. Strong, fruity, sweet...what more can I say. Total antithesis of Ardbeg or Lagavulin but every bit as much a gem

excellent whisky

very deceptive you would never know it was cask strength - very easy drinking and one i'll keep on my shelf - my favourite go to whisky moderately priced and always a favourite for anyone wanting to try something different - worth a try and certainly one for my collection

Purchase it if you can find it!

A hidden gem!

Very cool

Picked this up the other day, attracted to being stored in Amarone casks. This is cask strength but very easy drinking so beware that it can go down easy. Floral on the nose, red fruit like plum and cherries. Palate very smooth, no burn anywhere, the Amarone introduction brings in a Rosé type of flavour, subtle and soft, more fruit not citrus but the fleshy kind, cantaloupe, plum and cherries. Really different tasting whisky and a pleasant surprise.

An absolute pleasure of a dram, the flavours keep on giving and dependant on your mood they keep on changing. One of the finest glasses I've enjoyed glass after glass for some time.

Luckily my wife bought this, a repeat order is needed!!

Decided to stray from my usual Islay favorites when I first bought the Arran 10 and enjoyed it. Picked up the Amarone finish not knowing what to expect and love it! Unique flavor that just hit me right. Super drinkable. Brother-in-law became big fan at first sip, too. Just bought 2 more bottles since it's getting very hard to find in my home state. Actually makes me more open to trying other finishes that are out there.

Great value

Lovely after dinner whisky, so drinkable and smooth. One of my favourites. Pedàir Paìslig

Okey, nothing to be exited about

The real color is not as red as seen in online shops the taste is not so special

Superb with only some minor hints of alcohol on the nose and palate, but not enough to detract from what is an overall great whisky.

Iain mccallum

Superb rich smooth quality whisky at an unbelievably good price.

27th November 2015

In response to the opening post.

This whisky has been finished in an Amarone cask. That's a dry Italian red wine. As it says on the bottle the colouring is natural - it's simply the whisky picking up a touch of the wine colour from the cask.

Surprise Surprise

My wife actually plucked this up for me as a gift and she based this on a purchase I had made before which was a Macallan finished in sherry oak. This was a fantastic discovery for me and I have enjoyed this single malt so much more. The rich smooth taste with a clean flavorful finish is great. Still can't let the wife know this......she did good.

I would echo the previous review: Dangerously drinkable. It is so creamy, rich, and sweet. It does have a slight dryness on the palate, much like an Amarone wine. Very very very good.

21st November 2014

Dangerously drinkable. Don't be swayed by the colour as it is a result of the wine cask. A great purchase.

Pink whisky?

Very nice for pink whisky. The colour suits the flavour perfectly. Quite soft on the nose but the flavour is more intense, with chocolate-covered cherry, honeydew melon, and lots of sea salt. The medium finish is rather dry.
