Allt-á-Bhainne Bottling Note

The first official whisky from Allt-á-Bhainne distillery, which has previously produced liquid to be used in Chivas Regal blends or the occasional independent bottling. The inspiration behind this single malt Scotch whisky was to blend peat and smoky notes with classic Speyside elements.

The bottle design attempts to honour the '70s style of the distillery with its distinctive geometric shape.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Smoky malt and a prickle of white pepper spice blend with toffee apples, buttery pastry, a hint of heather and toasted oak.

Palate: Butterscotch, roasted apricot and honey provide sweetness among gingerbread and cinnamon spice and earthy peat.

Finish: A long finish has plenty of drying smoke and fizzing spice.

Allt-á-Bhainne Reviews

Smooth

Very nice whiskey

15th July 2019

Very Good

Remind me a lot of the smokey disteliries from the island of Islay, and that is what I like.

13th July 2019

Great value and well worth a try

Fabulous and such an easy nicely balanced drinkable malt

8th July 2019

Perfect

Fantastic and smooth, Smokey, peaty, sweet after burn. Could sip this all day long. My new favourite single malt peat.

2nd July 2019

Yes please

I don't know where you get all this fruit and peat, maybe my taste buds have aged. I much prefer the nose, the aroma took me back to Scotland and I will recommend it to the olfactory experts.

23rd June 2019

Sweetness and smoke

A very decent sweet (but not overly) peaty scotch, nicely balanced but I wouldn't pay over £25, there's sweetness and smoke but not a lot of depth.

22nd June 2019

Good but not great

As per the 'sceptical' review below: quite nice but a bit leathery, which disguises the taste for a while.
Again, £20 from Morrison's was fine, but would be upset if I'd paid 37.

13th June 2019

Worth a try at special offer prices.

I was very sceptical about mixing peat and Speyside. However, at £20 I decided to give it a go and was not disappointed. At this price, a traffic bargain. I would hesitate though, to fork out the £37 from which it was reduced in Morrison’s.

I concur with your assessment of the Chaps above- although I had to have three goes before I detected peat.

13th June 2019

not for me

I don't think this marriage of malts works. Perhaps Chivas should stick to what it is good at instead of blundering into the malt market with a bland and instantly forgettable blend.

12th June 2019

Excellent

Pretty good taste

11th June 2019

Lively flavours

I got it at twenty quid, for which it was good value. Does lots on the tongue, although at the official price it would not be enough in the rest of the mouth.

8th June 2019

Nothing special

Tried for first time yesterday. Thought it was a bit ordinary. Couldn’t taste peat or smoky.
Just recently tried Tamnavulin. Much better taste.
I’ll give it a second try tonight.

8th June 2019

Forgot I'd tried it from Tesco and bought another in Sainsburys. Wasted money

Rather bland with no real flavours just a pleasant enough sharpness. For £20 you're better off buying a Chivas Regal

8th June 2019

Nothing to see here

I paid £20 in Sainsburys for this, I wouldn’t revisit even at that price. NAS & you can tell harsh & no depth.

4th June 2019

An interesting and unique combo

Not as fruity and sweet as I'd feared, drier and smokier than I'd expected. I'm impressed. Around the £30 mark feels about right. Well worth a try if you like the sound of the tasting notes and reviews.

Grreat Bargin Wonderful flavour.

Very smooth and I would recommend to any one as an introduction to Peaty Malt whisky.

Goes down very well , even better I have just bought this from Tescos Cross Point Coventry, reduced to £10.60, I just wish I had bought more of it at this price..

30th May 2019

Lovely Bargain

On offer at £20 in Sainsbury’s. Fantastic value at the price. Would recommend

28th May 2019

Bacon?

I just found this for £20 at Sainsburys in the UK, was dubious to say the least why it was so cheap but had to give it a go. The tasting notes given by The Chaps are spot on, though I find the finish savoury with almost a bacon flavour, reminded me of Frazzles. The finish really lingers. It's a great whisky at £20.

27th May 2019

Very average

Don't mix peat with seaside it doesn't work

25th May 2019

Perfectly balanced

The perfect balanced whisky, at least for me. Strong smoky flavours tempered by a caramel sweetness, not too peaty, but not too mild either with an after taste that lingers long enough. I wished I bought a lot more when on offer. This is probably my first 5 star review.

20th May 2019

Gently peaty and sweet

Not quite peaty enough for me , ( the peatier the better ) but it is a pleasant surprise and slips down nicely. Very mild but a smooth, sweet gentle taste.

17th May 2019

Great drink

Great balance of smokiness & sweetness, absolute gorgeous

21st February 2019

Still amazing

Amazing

12th February 2019

Fiery beast.

Corr that feels more like 46%er blimey i know these guys specialise in blending but oooushh. Bonkers nose, fiery first hit. Very interesting. Do the mouth wash swish in the mouth and instantly get yoghurt coated apricot. Then smoke maybe marzipan. Love it.

9th February 2019

Great deal great flavour

I bought this whiskey for £27 great deal, l have struggled to find a whiskey I really liked but this one rated great for me

2nd January 2019

I must get more.

Just received this for my Christmas I must say it is one of the best I have tasted in a long time cheers.

25th December 2018

Really great mix of speyside and Islay

Nearly bypassed this whisky on the supermarket shelf, very glad I didn’t at £27 a bottle value for money and great taste sweet and peaty in one malt

21st December 2018

Perfect blend of fruity and smoky notes

Perfect balance of peat and the fruitiness you’d come to expect from a Speyside whisky. The peat notes are subtle and just enough for me. Really like the unique bottle shape too

17th December 2018

Wisp of smoke, fruit and spice

Tiniest wisp of smoke, a little honey/fruit sweetness, some spice, very acceptable.
I've been wondering for some time if I'd be able to try a distillery bottling - after driving past the distillery on many Speyside trips, and even looking down on its roof from the summit of Ben Rinnes - I appreciate the opportunity. I suspect the first reviewer based the comments on whisky label snobbery, not a taste of the whisky or a healthy interest in the products of all distilleries.

Peaty + punchy = perfect !

Allt A Bhainne is my new favourite whisky! I am not a huge fan of peated whiskies but this gets the balance of fruity and peat just perfect!

29th October 2018

Worth it!

Didn't expect much but was very pleasantly surprised! Lovely balance of peat and fruitiness. Not usually a fan of smoky whisky but the subtlety on this one is really nice and is easing me into the category. Well worth the very reasonable price tag. Slainte!

29th October 2018

Does exactly what it says on the tin (bottle)!

I bought Allt-A-Bhainne recently as I heard a lot of people talking about it. It was a very well balanced whisky and does exactly what it says!

It definitely has the character of Speyside with fruits such as apples, melons and sweet oranges coming through then a lovely peat/smokey note shining through but not too overpowering.

The finish is long and spicy.

I will definitely be adding another few bottles to my shopping cart!

29th October 2018

Interesting enough. I regret nothing!

I get a nice level of peat smoke, which forms a good background for orchard fruit and confectionary sweet notes. I'll go with 'acceptable entry level, single malt and reasonable, at the price'.

Not so down on it, as my friend, below, to whom I recommend the Caol Ila Moch. I took a sample on the order with which I got this bottle and I'll be having some more of that!

2018 whisky is sad

Nice bottle, awful presentation. NAS, 40% abv, E150 caramel colored, chill filtered. For the sake of the future of scotch whisky and for avoiding utter disapointment, steer clear
