This is the third batch of Tácnbora, the flagship blended whisky from The Ad Gefrin distillery in Northumberland. With a nod to the complex history of the area, this English whisky company blends Scottish and Irish whiskies that were aged in a combination of bourbon, fresh American oak, and oloroso sherry casks before bottling them up at 42.7% ABV.
Toffee apples, black pepper, creamy malt, marmalade, and ginger.
Caramel Digestives, cinnamon, vanilla pods, and hazelnuts.
Oak char and sherried spice.
Just tried my first dram of this whisky. I personally am not impressed as the Irish part seemed to be dominant. But will try again
While we wait for their first single, this is a fine and interesting blend. Tasting notes were pretty accurate. Very moreish, mellow yet complex. A visit to the distillery in Wooler is highly recommended
Tried this and to be honest, if they left only Irish in the bottle I’d give it 5 stars. They spoiled a good whiskey by adding poor quality scotch whisky to it. Price range, I would give it £15 at best for a mixer. You will find much better superior Irish whiskies for half this price, name Black Bush which is the best quality whiskey you can find on the market for the price. Others such as Silkie whiskies, Powers, Teeling etc.
Hadn't tried this before, or anything from this company, so wasn't sure what to expect. Initially wasn't sure with first dram but after few minutes in glass it really opened up, we had a few drams open but it was Tacnbora that people revisited. A perfect easy drinking dram and good value.
Delicious!! I am not normally a whisky drinker and was handed a glass at a recent family gathering - just superb!! Smooth and very easy to drink - have ordered 2 more bottles to enjoy soon!!
