Aberlour A'Bunadh #57 Bottling Note

Excellent single malt Scotch whisky from Aberlour - it's the 57th batch of their A'Bunadh expression! These releases are made with whisky drawn from Spanish Oloroso Sherry butts and bottled at cask strength, which is 60.7% ABV for batch 57.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Mocha, Sherry-drenched raisins, a good kick of gingerbread.

Palate: Oily walnuts and cigar box notes, tucked away under layers of chocolate and Christmas spices.

Finish: Clove and malt loaf last on the finish.

Aberlour A'Bunadh Batch 57 Reviews

Ridiculously Good!

If you see that batch you just buy it baby! What I got on the Nose was Cigar Box Tobacco Notes, Christmas Like Spices, and Mocha Chocolate.
What I got on the palate was Walnuts Chocolate Wave 1, Wave 2, Wave 3, With Tobacco, and Slight Spices. Finish was Clove and sherry mocha long lasting. 94/100 all day.

Holy s#$@!

Amazing how much flavour with this high proofing. The last time I had a surprise like that, was with a 58% Ileach Cask Strength.
New hints come to mind with where sip. Nuts, chocolate even liquorice and fruit. Tastebuds are losing their minds.

New territory for A'Bunadh

I'm amazed that Aberlour continues to chart completely new ground with A'Bunadh. This lacks the heavy Sherry that has defined A'Bunadh in the past. Instead, it marries a surprising smoothness with an intense spiciness - Christmas spices like cinnamon and all-spice - in a much lighter expression. This whisky is so non-A'Bunadh, and yet so excellent that I can't wait to hear what Jim Murray thinks of it. I can't think of any distillery that forges new ground like Aberlour. Congratulations, and keep up the good work!

Holy crap!

Not for the faint hearted!
Exceptionally well flavoured for a Whisky of this percentage.
Just get through that first 'kick in the teeth' and the flavours will amaze.

My first A'Bunadh and I'm very happy with it

Loved the cask strength, very powerful, lots of sherry. Awesome dram, it changes a lot with a few drops of water.

A Smooth, Mouth watering malt.

Having just finished a Batch 54 - i decided to try the batch 57 & the first thing i've noticed is that the 57 doesn't turn cloudy when water is added !
I don't usually drink cask strength so i'm not sure why there's a different reaction from the different batches.
The 57 feels smoother & has a slightly oily feel around the mouth. I found the Sherry flavour less evident in the 57 & the colouration to be of a lighter shade too. I do like a Sherry Cask & am still enjoying this malt.
A decent enough malt at the price ( got mine on offer @ £35 )
