Aberlour A'Bunadh #50 Bottling Note
Fifty. Five tens. Two twenty-fives. Half of a hundred. However you put it, that's a heck of a lot of well Sherried single malts from Aberlour's excellent a'Bunadh series. Batch 50 is another great edition, with a sturdy ABV (59.6% for this batch) and oodles of spice and dark fruit notes after being matured in Oloroso Sherry butts.

Aberlour A'Bunadh Batch 50 Reviews
Batch 50
Hmm - I'm really not sure of this one - straight from the bottle is overpowering and unpleasant.
Heaps of water and yes, spice, marmalade sweet and smooth - I'm getting it now - I think this one improves from 1/3 of water and a bit of breathing to let off the toxic flavours - and don't try it straight.
I think this is why I was struggling with it.

Batch 50 vs Prior
Batch 50 is good, but not as good as the last batch I had over the holidays last year (my favorite, but I do not know its batch number).

Once again the taste of chocolate with spice predominates in this batch, love it and enjoy the more subtle dry hint of sherry. A must for the drinks cabinet.

Thank you "To the previous reviewer"
Thanks for your reply and honest remarks. As a Aberlour A'Bunadha new-be (I began with batch-50), my bottle of batch-50 tastes great to me. Not having tasted any other batches, how would I know any different? But knowing that batch-50 was "off the mark" and that other batches are better is actually really exciting. I am looking forward to opening my bottles of batch-45 and batch-49 as well as to trying other acquired batches. I can only imagine how good they must be. I am excited and looking forward to finding and tasting other batches. It is going to be a great journey and experience. I completely agree with you that the Aberlour distillery is top shelf. I very recently found and purchased a bottle of their basic 10-year that had been sitting on a shelf since 2005. It was so good and brought back such fond memories.

Reluctant convert
I'm a lover of sherried whiskies but have resisted buying NAS whiskies because it feels like a "rip-off". I really didn't want to like this as yet another example of the "no age statement" trend and yes I know that A'Bunadh has been going on since 1997. It is though, I have to admit, absolutely fantastic and could well be my new favourite daily tipple. It definitely benefits from adding a little water (I use Evian from glass bottles). Superbly balanced, rich, spicy, smooth, long finish and with that strong sherry aroma I love. Knocks the socks off anything in the Macallan 1824 range most of which are pretty cloying by comparison. If you also like this, you might also want to try The Glenlivet Nàdurra Oloroso OLO614 or Edradour 15yrs The Fairy Flag.

I began with early 30's batches. Made my way through the 40's and now with as much respect as ever before into the 50's. Batch 50 was completely off the mark. So much so I couldn't believe they released it. However, Aberlour more than redeemed itself with batch 52 to present. This distillery is Top shelf and holds a place in my heart. I look forward to many more releases.

I began with batch 50
I began with batch 50, after an old fling with the Aberlour 10-year. (When it comes to scotch, Aberlour rules; it's my favorite.) I've read that there are issues with certain batches and that some batches are better than others, but this batch 50 is pretty darn good. In fact, it's pretty awesome. (And the friends I shared it with would say the same.) I have unopened bottles of the batch 45 and batch 49 waiting in the wings. From their reviews, I can only imagine how good they will be. And there is a local spirit shop that still has four bottles of the batch 50 on the shelf. I think I may have to scoop them up.

That's the Beauty.....
The divergence of sweet and heat come together to make something special. This whiskey is a bargain. I'm going to buy two each year, one to enjoy, and one to collect!
