Aberlour A'Bunadh Alba #5

Aberlour's immensely popular A'Bunadh has grown with the introduction of A'Bunadh Alba! The name is a reference to Quercus Alba, which is the name of the American white oak which is used to age this very whisky. Drawn exclusively from first-fill American oak ex-bourbon barrels, this expression shows off a different side of Aberlour – you may be more familiar with its heavily sherried drams, but this one is more about fresh orchard fruits, shortbread, and almond notes.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Reviews for Aberlour A'Bunadh Alba Batch 5
Sort of a "good news/bad news" whisky
This A'Bunadh doesn't have much of a nose to comment upon, but it does have some good flavors of pear, apple and pineapple along with some oaky malt on the palate. The finish is mostly a lingering bourbon-oak sensation, but it's not too long, as you would expect of a NAS whisky. Overall, I would call the flavor profile "fruity oak". The one fairly significant fault with this whisky is the alcohol burn. You get some on the nose, then quite a bit on the palate and it continues into the finish - it just seems like this is good spirit should have stayed in the cask for another decade or so to smooth out that rough edge. So for @ $90.00 US, I can't recommend it. Price it at $50.00 and it would be something to consider. Carefully.
