The first release of Swedish single malt from Mackmyra. A good deal of this was matured in virgin Swedish oak casks, many of which were as small as 100 litres.
Nose: Fruity. Orchard fruits and citrus. Honey. Light spice. oaky, toffee.
Palate: Gentle and fruity. Honey, spiced.
Finish: Spiced, apples. Good length.

Exciting, if I didn't knew it were from Sweden I would think it was a bad japanese.

It was a surprise to receive a Swedish Single Malt. I am not a big whisky drinker but I enjoy a MaCallan or Glenfiddich on occasion. This is the first whisky I have truly enjoyed that did not come from Scotland. I will definitely have to explore one of your other whiskys such as the Svensk Rok when I finish this bottle. I do recommend this to friends. But I don't think anyone has found it here in Colorado, USA.

It has a bit of alcohol burn on the nose. Palate has some fruity, honey flavors with a bit of cereal spice (a different kind of flavor, maybe even a hint of walnut). I have never had a Swedish whisky before and this one was different. A little thin on flavor, which could be from the virgin casks. Also, there is no age statement listed. Not sure I would buy a whole bottle, but the sample was good to get a chance to try this.

I'm not swedish (in fact I'm argentinian), but the point is how good (or not) is Mackmyra. Personally I was surprised: Mackmyra is fresh and citric, but complex and quite different if you compare it with traditional single malts. Recommended to whom enjoy Cragganmore, japanese Hakushu, and similars.

Don't bother with the more expensive expressions, just get this! (That said, I haven't tried all of the other expressions).

Floral, aromatic with a lot of oak in it, Mackmyra First Edition is a bold step from the distillery. The overall taste is very personal (is it the Swedish oak then?) and i'd say fans of, for example, The Macallan should look into this. Will be following Mackmyra with great interest.

I tasted this - Mackmyra First Edition - on a whim while in Stockholm earlier this week. It's one of the most enjoyable whiskies I have ever had -- I brought back three bottles to the US. It drinks like a cross between a highlands scotch (think Oban) and an accessible bourbon (say, Blanton's). It's deceptively smooth at first taste, but has a long finish that leaves you thinking, "Wow, they made a great single malt in Sweden."

I'm always on the lookout for something different to add to my (proper) whisky collection (currently 40+), and stumbled upon the Mackmyra. I find it a pleasant, sipable distillation, somewhat reminiscent of Cardhu.

I see some folks like this one, but for me it was a complete miss.I disliked everyhting about it, felt more like a vodka than a whisky.
