Produced and distilled in the heart of Tequila, Mexico, by Fabrica de Tequilas, this reposado was made with blue agave that was cooked in autoclaves using steam for 10 hours. A special yeast is then added to the agave juices before fermentation, which lasts as long as 72 hours before distillation.
Rooster Rojo reposado is subsequently double pot distilled in stainless steel pot stills, before being 'rested' in oak. Water filtered through Mexican silver is added to blend the product down to a measured 38% ABV.
A slightly woody aroma leads with touches of caramel, orange rinds and cassia bark. Baked agave, cedar and pipe tobacco fill the backdrop.
Toasty spices rise through blackberry, cooked peppers and exotic citrus. Among green wood there's a little coffee bean, vanilla, popcorn and more earthy caramel and cooked agave.
Cedar and subtle mineral notes blend with soft oak warmth.
This smooth Tequila has become my go to drink. I drink straight straight or with a small amount of Ice. It has a very pleasant hint of vanilla on the pallet and is warming on the swallow, without the afterburn. It puts many other more expensive brands to shame and is great value for the money.
Seems very reasonably priced. A lot to like - spiced vegetal notes nicely balanced with a bit of vanilla sweetness. Made a fantastic Corpse Reviver.
This is my favourite ‘less expensive’ tequila. Excellent value and quality for everyday drinking.
Spectacularly good the price. Big delicious hit of caramel straight off the bat, bit of fire on the throat but not an alcohol burn, almost chili. Prefer it to the añejo which is also exceptional value.
