El Rayo Reposado

This is the Reposado expression from Tequila El Rayo, which distils 100% Blue Weber agave in 105 year old copper stills and matured for seven months in casks that previously held whiskey before being bottled. El Rayo translates to 'the lightning', and the name is an homage to the legend that lightning struck a Blue Weber agave plant, cooking it and creating the first Tequila.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Soft caramel notes and a subtle hint of oak, with underlying orange, while the cooked agave vegetal hints still remain alongside the sweeter notes.

Gentle, light & fresh.
Gentle, light & fresh, not too complex.
Butterscotch on the palette then comes the grassy vegetal notes in the development & a wisp of pine needles on its short finish. No burn.
Remindes me more of Sotol than a Tequilla.

simple, yet delicious
Although less complex in flavours than it’s plata, the reposado is beautifully smooth and perfect to sip on. The sweeter notes and slight oak smoke from the barrel aged techniques come through and has a nice lingering finish.
