Rum Samples

Rum is traditionally crafted from sugarcane byproducts, such as molasses, though some rums are made directly from sugarcane juice. These raw materials are fermented and then distilled, a process which can vary greatly depending on regional practices and the desired end product. The spirit is then aged, frequently in oak barrels, which imparts depth and character, mellowing the fiery alcohol and infusing it with an array of flavours ranging from vanilla and caramel to spice and fruit.

The beauty of rum lies in its variety. White rums are typically clear, light-bodied, and subtly flavoured, making them ideal for cocktails that let their mixers shine, like the classic Mojito or Daiquiri. Dark rums, on the other hand, are aged longer and boast a bolder flavour profile with notes of molasses and spices, perfect for sipping neat or on the rocks. Between these two extremes, there’s a spectrum of gold rums, spiced rums, and overproof rums, each with its own personality and purpose.

Within their range, one may find the light, crisp rums of the Spanish style, the rich, molasses-heavy rums typical of the English tradition, or the grassy, complex rhum agricole of the French Caribbean. These samples also provide a platform for experiencing limited releases, aged expressions, and premium rums that might otherwise be inaccessible.

By offering these 3cl drams, Drinks by the Dram democratises the tasting experience, allowing rum lovers to conduct their own tastings at home, compare styles side by side, or even host a rum-tasting party, giving everyone a passport to the world's rum without ever leaving the comfort of their homes.
