As experts in making eau-de-vie and capturing the spirit of the fresh fruit in their drinks, St. George Spirits have expanded their horizons on what they can extract cracking flavours from, to the point where it doesn't even need to be fruit any more!
Their California Agricole Rum, for example, takes the earthy, grassy flavours from the locally-grown, small-diameter sugarcane. Freshly harvested in Southern California, the sugarcane juice is extracted by running the stalks by hand through their sugarcane mill. The uncooked juice is then distilled in small batches using their 500-litre copper pot still.
It's also got more fabulous funk running through it than Sly & The Family Stone's discography, and you know we just can't get enough of that funky rum. It's not what you would expect from a rum, as many are actually made with molasses, but the unique, fresh, earthy notes will stick in your mind for a very long time afterwards.
Nose: Woah! This is funky, with notes of freshly opened tins of sweetcorn (or as they say over the pond, 'cans' of sweetcorn), creamy horseradish, mown grass and a sugarcane sweetness that's almost jammy.
Palate: Creamier on the palate, again reminiscent of horseradish but without the heat. Good earthy minerality.
Finish: Sweet funk, celery salt.
Overall: Oh my God, that's the funky s***!

I absolutely adore their gins, so decided to try out this one as well. It turned out to be undrinkable neat. Tried in Cuba Libre, both regular coke and fancy version, but sadly both went down the sink in the end. This is going to be a love it or hate it kind of thing, and it didn't work at all for me.

Neat - Tastes like water chestnut. Has an earthy aftertaste but still quite clean. Distinctive vegetal and sugarcane like aromas.
