Spice Hunter Bottling Note

Inspired by the story of 18th century botanist/spice smuggler Pierre Poivre, Spice Hunter is a fittingly cockle-warming spiced rum featuring notes of ginger, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and pepper. Built around a Mauritian rum, 13 spices are added in to the mix, resulting in a powerful flavour profile which we reckon will pair excellent with cola or ginger ale.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Fresh ginger initially, then long pepper, cardamon and heaps of aromatic cloves. More spice comes in the form of green peppercorns, allspice and a couple of drying dashes of nutmeg and pimento before cinnamon pastries, cola cubes and vanilla pods add a balanced sweetness. A hint of spent firework adds something interesting underneath.

Palate: More cinnamon, clove and an earthy twist of black pepper, then root beer, gingerbread and mulled fruit.

Finish: Short and delicately sweet, with earthy and dry spice lingering underneath.

Spice Hunter Reviews

All spice and no rum

Not well balanced, the base rum tastes a little watery, leaving nothing for the spice to blend into, instead, allows the spice flavour to overpower the rum.

No doubting that it's boldly spiced

Possibly the most strongly spiced rum on the market. BIG hits of clove and ginger. Whatever you choose to mix this with, you're not going to lose the flavour of this rum.

Warming from the inside out, it makes a nice change to the other bland by comparison spiced rums on the market that all follow the same format (a bit of vanilla, maybe ginger, bit of nutmeg etc etc). Plays well in tiki drinks (try 50ml this, 30ml pineapple juice, 30ml lemon juice, 25ml orgeat, 2 dash angostura).

It would be a lie to say that everyone will enjoy this, but if like me, you like your flavours strong and you're getting bored of all the, quite frankly, derivative spiced rums on the market, give it a go. It's great value at £23

Cheap and nasty, all the wrong ingredients.

No. This tastes nasty. I'm a spiced rum veteran and was looking forward to trying this but was very disappointed. It tastes like someone poured me a sailor jerry but dumped a ton of pot pouri in it for a laugh. Try ALAMEA instead, now that is a tasty rum. (Or Rumbullion obviously).
