A 12 year old dark rum from Ron Abuelo of Panama. They age their rum in whiskey barrels, which adds a distinct vanilla sweetness. This 12 year old was launched in 2009, and is elegant, slightly smoky and rich. It was awarded a Gold at the 2009 Ministry of Rum Tasting Competition.
Buttery toffee notes with hints of caramel and citrus. Molasses... Dates...
Thick and creamy, with notes of spice, toasted oak, herbs and dark brown sugar.
Good finish with cinnamon and oak.
$30.38 - $60.56
I love this Rum! Sweet but not overly so, hints of sherry, vanilla, chocolate, citrus and much more. In a similar style to Diplomatico.......... and way too easy to drink. ;)
This is a Rum that you would drink on cold winter’s Night, sitting next to a log fire. It is very warming and gives a nice after glow. It is slightly sweet, but for the price unbeatable value. This will become a regular purchase.
In canada there is nothing like ron abuelo... Its a Panama drink... Its the only rum i like .. Going there for a winter holiday again... I love Panama the people... And the rum.. And the beer...
I discovered this rum on holiday in Panama. It was the first rum I'd tasted that made me think I might like rum, and since getting home I've struggled to find it, or anything close to as good. Now I've found it here for a great price, I'll always have a bottle on hand. I love the sweetness and smooth thickness of this rum. It has notes of the sugar cane coming through, which I find lacking in most other rums.
Tastes quite young, not ripe at all. Lacks those sweet dark notes that i expect from 12 yo. Slightly bitter and maybe even sour after taste. I will let this sit in the bottle, burying it in the cellar that i don't have, hopefully forget it and and maybe after few years i will get back to this by writing another review.
