A superb-looking decanter bottle of XO rum from Barbados, aged in bourbon barrels before being shipped to France for a secondary maturation in Cognac casks from the Ferrand house. The result is a well balanced rum with a remarkably long finish, with a palate of chocolate, banana, coconut and mango. Now this is some very good stuff.
Nose: Hints of spicy oak on the nose, with guava, a little desiccated coconut and dried banana. Buttery.
Palate: Spiced, creamy palate entry, with sweet vanilla notes and caramel. Oaky spices.
Finish: Caramel. Toasted oak.

Loved this rum. My go to rum is El Dorado 12 Yr old but this has sweet subtle flavours

I was looking for something I could just pour a glass of , sit back and sip slowly straight up without kidding myself it was enjoyable or "nice." This is it ! Tasting notes are spot on. It just gets better the further down the glass you go. Smooth and complex with no burn or harshness . Very grown up !

Best rum out there, smooth and rich. Great drinking on its own or with a splash of lime over ice. Would 100% recommend - 5th bottle now and my go to rum!

You know when you taste something and you know is so primitive, typical and basic. in a short sentence on the nose a Banatin (banana tartatin) dusted with toasted notes and 🥥 coconut and chocolate crumbles. I admit that I was not impressed, but on the palate it recalibrated my expectations entirely.. elegant power and persistence, texture and balance that shows what a unique maturation can add to a product. After the first sip it also flaired up beautiful notes of seville oranges and a very long finish.
I am by no means an expert on rum but I have tasted/ sipped a few and I would say that although I enjoyed this rum and yes it is a fine rum, but for me it was a tad to sweet and I found it to have over tones of coconut which for me spoiled it a bit. I do think that it is very very smooth and as I drink most rums without adding mixers or ice it didn’t give you a big after kick.So I ask myself would I buy it again and the answer is probably as I did enjoy it

I think this is simply impeccable. Now some people may argue, “I should bloody well think so for that price!” And you know what, I completely agree. If you are going to spend that sort of money on a rum, you should at the very least expect that it’s going to be far more superior, than all the generic rums currently being sold at the moment. Well this Plantation XO 20th Anniversary Rum certainly lives up to its price tag. This is a prime example of, ‘you get what you pay for!’ It smells like a cross between Rum and Brandy. And considering this rum spent its final years aged in a Cognac barrel, I may not be far from the mark with my nose skills. Neat, this is spot on as a sipping rum. In the mouth it’s sweet, and goes down smooth with no gruff alcohol after burn. If you don’t believe me, compare this with a cheap rum and you will be left in to no doubt why Plantation is relatively so expensive. But for me, adding Coca-Cola and turning this into a long drink, sent me to rum heaven! It’s faultless. Every mouthful made me feel like a millionaire! Even with the coke, it doesn’t become sickly sweet like some rums. And with absolutely no grim unpleasant aftertaste, it’s no wonder I have nothing but adulation for this rum. My only reservation is this. If you are going to spend £50 on a rum, then mix it with Coca-Cola, is it worth it? Well if I may be bold as to answer my own question, everything is relative, so if you can afford to do so, then ABSOLUTELY DEFINITELY.
