Plantation Overproof Bottling Note

A staggering overproof rum sourced from Trinidad and created by the Cognac Ferrand estate. This stuff is bottled at 73% abv and is aged in young bourbon casks before bottling.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Cane sugar and hints of dried banana. Oak and nutmeg, a little toffee.

Palate: Guava and melon. Cedar, dark brown sugar and hints of dried mango. Very punchy though surprisingly quaffable.

Finish: Fiery warmth on the finish, in the form of golden syrup and wood spice.

Plantation Original Dark Overproof Reviews

Smooth & tasty - warms your body & soul

I picked up this 69% beast from a local liquor store here in Finland. I have to say that I pondered for a quite long time before I dared to grab the bottle - the question bothering me was can this strong rum be any good, can you actually taste anything since it’s almost pure alcohol? As for my background, I’m a relatively new rum lover - I used to consume GTs for the past 20 years or so, but suddenly I noticed that I have had my share of gin in this life. At the same time, a couple of years ago, I was enjoying rum cocktails, and to this day, especially dark rum with (Fever-Tree) ginger beer is my new soul mate. But back to Plantation - I have had only pleasant experiences with various products of the brand, which was also a major factor in daring to face the challenge of 69% rum lord. I have never enjoyed that strong alcohols, so I was prepared for a disappointment. And how wrong was I and how grateful I am that I chose this godly nectar. Namely, this rum is absolutely a feast! It works perfectly as such, as neat as it comes or with a little bit of ice accompanied. I don’t want to spoil the joy of journey from you, and thus I am not going to over-analyze the rum. Just acquire your own Plantation, have different tasting experiments and enjoy the ride! I absolutely love this rum, and it suits perfectly for cocktails as well. If you like rums, you don’t want to miss out this one.

The mymic

I've been put off by other overproof rums. They just struck me as some sort of macho bravado thing, than an actual quality rum, but I've never had a bad plantation so far. Nose: Challenging stuff, it takes a while to get your nose used to all that booze, but when you do. Clove, mace, pepper, nutmeg, marmalade, pineapple, toasted coconut, roasted marshmallows, dried banana, dried mango, hard caramel. Palate: You don't drink this stuff, it evaporates on your tounge and you taste the fumes. Thick bitter marmalade again, powerful vanilla, coconut, dried peaches, dried apricots, bitter inky oak, dried bananas, guava, unripe pears, lime peel, the spices from the nose are here, clove, mace, nutmeg, ginger. Finnish: Sits very warm in your belly like a hot coal. Dry oaky vanilla hangs around for ages. Comments: It takes a lot of time and effort to get to the bottom of this, but it's worth it, this is no gimmick this is a high quality rum.
