Matusalem 15 Gran Reserva Reviews
Very decent sipping rum
Matusalem 15 is a light bodied aromatic Cuban style rum. These type runs are made for sipping generally. The lighter body is great for warm and/or hot climates and days. Couple this with a good Cuban cigar and you will understand how and why it is.
Are there more full bodied pungent rums? Of course there are and they are good for sipping as well but not so much to the Cuban common heritage.
Give this rum a try sitting on a shaded terrace with nice breezes and close your eyes. You will be pleasantly surprised with the nuanced smoothness and slightly sweet undertones.

Great starter
$38 a bottle & it's 15yrs old? It's nice for beginners. It was my 1st & I thought the world of it till I ventured out. I won't be going here anymore. Theres just way better out there. You get what you pay for, most of the time.

DELICIOUS!!
On par with Zacapa. One of my favorites.

Very refined
This is a rum to enjoy with gentleman and meaningful conversation. You won't feel the alcohol effect immediately, but enjoy a pleasant and refined taste that will capture the craftiness of its engineering.

Mediocre
Not that sublime, it lacks complexity, Is there any after taste at all?

A pleasant surprise
We go to a Cuban bar that serves this rum. It is especially delicious with expresso. It can stand on its own and has vanilla flavors and is quite well balanced. However, it is also a wonderful mixing room. don't be concerned about negative reviews, give it a try.

Fruity & Floral
Perhaps tastes a bit sweet (due to the added fruits and essences?) but for me it is smooth and easy-drinking, ideal for sipping and good for those of us who prefer a less harsh rum. Though the allegedly added sugar could be omitted.
It is also substantially cheaper here, on-line than at retail.

Artificially flavoured, doubt its 15yo at all
I doubt that this is made in true solera style, and internet has revealed that it gets its taste from macerated fruits and essences. That shows through, it is a bit artificial overall, with a good dollop of added sugar to round all the flavours. Sweet, light hispanic rum, should be sold as spiced rum.

Watery...
This is a Cuban style rum and as a result is very light. It's extremely smooth and I find lacks complexity, and feels almost watery in the mouth.
If you're looking for an easy sipper, this is most definitely the one for you. It will go down a treat for those house guests that aren't big rum fans.
