Hampden Estate Rum (46%) Bottling Note

The Hamden Estate in Jamaica has long produced excellent aged rum, much of which goes into blends, making it a bit hard to come by (indie bottlers do sometimes get their hands on a few casks, mind). However, the time has come for the distillery to release some its aged rum itself! This edition is made using pot still rum, is matured in Jamaica and bottled is at 46% ABV - and it's excellent.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Clear notes of cherry and banana, balanced by earthy oak and savoury herbs - basil, thyme, maybe even some spicy cumin?

Hampden Estate Rum (46%) Reviews

Great Jamaican Rum

This is my first jump into this type of Rum - i.e. Caribbean rums that are not following the more Spanish style. This Jamaican Rum is funky on the nose, stringent and rolls into a tropical smell of bananas and pineapples. The nose opens up more the longer you leave it. Taste is dry and with a ripe fruitiness and esters. There is a woodiness to. Aftertaste leaves a dense bitterness and woodiness.
This is a delicious rum, and a great place to start exploring this style of rum that are heavier, dry and funky.

Massive disappointment

I am coming to the conclusion I don’t love rum, but this rustic farrago is massively oversold. I don’t care how artisanal it is. It takes like medicine, mixed with bitters, mixed with molasses. Avoid. The only rums worth drinking are made by French speakers.
