Another addition to Hunter Laing's fabulous Kill Devil bottling series, and this is a rather special release of 35 year old Jamaican rum. It began its life in 1983 at the Hampden Estate distillery from a pot still and was matured in a single cask for over three decades. It was bottled at a cask strength of 58.1% ABV in 2019, with only 198 bottles produced.
Nose: Tropical fruits - mango, guava, leather and liquorice on the nose.
Palate: Initially pear drop sweets on the palate followed by engine oil, banana and cloves. Overripe pineapple is tempered by sweet oak and the whole is beautifully complex integrated after over three decades of maturation.
Finish: A medium length, slightly dry finish with a faint hint of tobacco smoke.
