Depaz Rhum Agricole XO Bottling Note

In 1902, the sugar cane plantations at the foot of Mount Pelee volcano was destroyed by an eruption. Around 15 years later, Victor Depaz revived the plantation and distillery that has since carried the name Depaz. Depaz Rhum Hors D’Age Agricole XO is a fabulous blend of aged rums from the French Island of Martinique, distilled in column stills.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Zesty fruitcake alongside a combination of roses, chocolate and vanilla, followed by more savoury notes of woodiness and liquorice.

Depaz Rhum Hors d'Age Agricole XO Reviews

Nice blend of fruit and wood

Compared to the VSOP, this lacks the fiery ness but adds more flavour and depth.

Smell is subtly fruity - like a summer fruit jus - along with the rich sugar cane. Distinctive. The taste quite woody, yet it doesn't overpower the cane, fruit, and the gentle burn. The finish is dry, with wood on the tongue, and the rich summer fruit lingering round the edges, for quite some time.

I thought it would be a better VSOP, but instead it's different. The flavour is richer and more complex, but is it better? Maybe. It is nice, though

Would not waste money on this one.

Very disappointed. Not like any other rum from Martinique. Rough to start and bitter after taste. Not just me but two others experienced the same notes.
