Unfortunately, we can't ship Burla Negra Rum to the United States at the moment, but we've got some friends who can.
Burla Negra Rum is made with a blend of Caribbean rums, and finished in casks that previously held Albariño wine. This one's got a subtle saltiness to it, and that's not an accident. It's in reference to how pirates would bring casks of rum onto their ships, and once empty, they would be filled with seawater and use it like a ballast - imparting saltiness to the cask, and in turn imparting saltiness to whatever would be held in it next.
Salted caramel, fresh papaya, ginger, mint and lemon.

The salt in this rum feels perfectly balanced, it creates intensity without making it overtly salty, enhancing all the flavours and giving an impression of sweetness, but it doesn't feel like there's any added sugar. Unless I'm mistaken, there seems to be a touch of sherry cask aged rum in the blend. The saltiness works when drinking neat but also in drinks like an Old Fashioned, where sugar is added. (I use maple syrup). Delicious!

According to the Burla Negra website, their rum is infused with Atlantic seawater & then aged for 24 spring tides - good stuff! In the glass it is very dark, I have no idea how long '24 spring tides' is in months and years but suspect there may be some colouring added. The rum is very sweet with a syrupy consistency and just a hint of salt. Drunk straight, I'm not able to pick out any citrus or mint flavours, just sugary sweetness. I'm no expert but suspect there is a significant amount of sugar added.Too sweet for me!

Incredible - the salt brings out the full spectrum of taste.
