Appleton Estate 12 Year Old Rare Blend Reviews

Under priced for the quality

Ive spend my lockdown doing various tastings and exploring rum. I most recently did an Appleton estate tasting which included the signature blend, the 12yo and the 21yo. Whilst the 21yo was exceptional and a real treat to experience the 12yo was amazing especially taking into consideration the price difference.

Goto rum

One from my playlist.

Full of flavour

Full of flavour and one of my go-to rums and for the price it's more than worth it.

Anti-profile for me

I wrote the 15 Jan 2020 review. As I tried to blend it with simple sweet rums like Old Monk, it destroyed them with a bitter liquorice grass profile. And this spice, now badly accentuated to me, kept coming up, in negroni or fresh coconut Pina coladas. In the end I will give up on taming this, and will only use very little in future cocktails, like a bitter.

Dry and smooth, but boring?

As a Ron Zacapa drinker, to me this is surprisingly dry. While smoother, it's less fragrant. Warming and harmless, so it's pretty good as a mixer for stronger tastes like a twist of citrus or cinnamon I think. A little boring to sip by itself.

The best rum I know for under £50

Molasses, raisins, banana and a hit of cocoa. Medium length, pleasant finish. Warm but not scathing, at least not for a single malt whisky drinker. Would recommend to anyone wanting a sipping rum that delivers, but doesn't cost a bomb.

one of the best rum in the whole world

one of the best rum in the whole world and simple the best for it's price. dryish, pot still, thick, round, woody, dark, fair 12 years minimum in barrel, solid and honest havy weight drink. not for those who like sweet rums, but for those who appreciate the flavor and taste, for those who drink good old scotch single malts.

Beautiful Rum

I love this Rum, lovely flavours and a wonderful nose, definitely worth the extra from the Signature blend, which is very good too.

First class

Excellent rum one of the best, I was always a fan of myers rum but this one is good

13th May 2018

Can also be used in trifles

Good for making rum truffles

31st March 2018

Not great

Spicy, vanilla nose, thin not well rounded palate, quickly fading finish

Very good

For £36 you can't go wrong with this one, whilst I would recommend the earlier, 12yo extra that Appleton Estate supply, this is a rum that maintains the same calibur. For those who have tried the earlier 12yo, this one is prickly in comparison but not by much, so a dash of water is what I would recommend if drinking straight. This epitomises Appleton estate, with the zesty orange flavours that complement the typical flavours of most rums e.g. Vanilla, molasses, etc.

Great rum

Loved sipping this rum, every mouthful seemed to reveal a different flavour, you can't really go wrong with an Appleton, only downside is the screwcap.
