Just when you thought Rumbullion! and Rumbullion! Navy-Strength couldn't be beat, Ableforth's bring us Rumbullion! XO 15 Years Old. Once again, it's a spectacular, shipshape spiced rum inspired by the seafaring fraternity from centuries ago, but this time, it's the Captain's special reserve which he keeps locked in his quarters.

The blend of vanilla, orange peel and fine spices brings back the familiar, fantastic notes of the original, but the extraordinary 15 year old Caribbean rum at the core of Rumbullion! XO gives the rum a seductive, intense depth. Well balanced, full-bodied and packed with warmth, the Captain will not be likely to share a drop.

Best enjoyed neat, but it also makes an excellent spiced Palmetto cocktail...

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: A huge hit of creamy, sweet vanilla and juicy, freshly sliced oranges. There is a mulled wine-like delivery of toasted cinnamon and cloves, with a core of well-aged rum. Aromatic notes of dark chocolate, ripe plums and fragrant oak develop in the glass.

Palate: Exceedingly thick, mouth-coating palate-entry offering up crystallised peels, Seville orange marmalade and even a hint of blackberry. Soft chamois leather and cedar wood provide a complex backbone alongside a huge dosing of cinnamon, cloves and liquorice.

Finish: Long, sparkling finish with notes of old-fashioned cola cubes and intense bittersweet orange. A final flutter of toasted oak appears on the tail.

Overall: This XO edition includes all the rich flavour of the original Rumbullion! with an added dimension of depth and complexity.

One for cinnamon lovers

Am slightly in too minds about this. It seems fundamentally a decent quality rum with some depth to it and a long warming finish. However I find the spicing a bit heavy on the cinnamon/cassia bark and slightly medicinal as a result. My wife loves that but for me it reminds me a bit too much of Aftershock.

Expensive but worth it

Very nice stuff although a bit pricey for what it is, love the navy strength and the original is excellent, would say its worth a buy as a special occasion one off.

I really wanted to like it....

I love Rumbullion, I REALLY love the Navy Strength Rumbullion and I so wanted to like the XO.... but I didn’t. It tastes more like a concentrated Scotch.
I would suggest trying a sampler on this one before outlaying the money. It’s a lot for a 500ml size bottle.

Amazing complex flavour but a little expensive

Rumbullion is easily in my top 2 spiced rums so it was only a matter of time until I tried this XO version. Got to admit the taste is out of this world, not sure if it's 'better' than the original, it's certainly as good but different. Although I love it it's too expensive. I could probably accept the price tag if it delivered 700ml, but to cut it down to half a litre seems a bit tight to me. Glad I have it on the shelf but unfortunately I won't be buying another one.

This is really concentrated stuff - approach with care - but it's incredibly good when you know what to expect.

perfect

The best of the best. After trying about 40-50 different rums over many years, this stands out as my all time favourite. Just perfect in every way. Pricey, perhaps, but with every penny.

My new favorite rum, no question. I'm a fan of "standard" Rumbullion but this takes it to a whole new level.
