This extraordinary Vintage Cocktail was created especially for The Candlelight Club to serve at their legendary events. The Club is a “pop-up” bar with a very cool 1920s Speakeasy flavour. Since 2010, the Club has been throwing parties in secret London locations, lit with candles! Guests of the Candlelight Club come in period outfits, and can enjoy live jazz and some pretty exquisite cocktails!The concept of the ‘Vintage Cocktail’ range is simple – you get all the ingredients for a superb cocktail pre-mixed, all you have to do is pour it over ice, stir, then strain off into your glass and garnish (in this instance with a twist of lemon peel). Each bottle carries a subtle set of roman numerals in the top right-hand corner indicating the year that the cocktail was ‘born’.Whether this cocktail should be made with Cognac or Rye has been the subject of much debate over the years; this bottling uses a 50:50 mix to very pleasing effect.
Nose: Very aromatic and rich, with notes of star anise, golden syrup, vanilla and hot, buttery rye. Little notes of prune, huge orange zest and manuka honey.
Palate: Spicy and orange-rich, freshly ground black pepper and barrel char coat the palate, hints of sweet cinnamon, peppermint, creamy vanilla and nutmeg. Then, all of a sudden, the aniseed notes develop, offering another dimension to this classic cocktail.
Finish: Long and sweet with vanilla, aniseed and orange zest.
