We do love a good Negroni, and this is indeed a very, very good Negroni! Made with a meticulously calculated blend of English copper pot-still gin, a blend of vermouths and the all-important bitter apéritif, this is an excellent drinks for all manner of occasions.
The concept of the ‘Vintage Cocktail’ range is simple – you get all the ingredients for a superb cocktail pre-mixed, all you have to do is pour it over ice, stir and finally garnish (in this instance with a healthy slice of fresh orange). Each bottle carries a stamp showing its year of manufacture.
Nose: Rich, musty aromas of a chef’s pantry, spices and fresh herbs. Hints of berry fruits (sloes and damsons in particular) develop, with hints of dried basil and olive.
Palate: Rich cherry and rhubarb, hints of juniper, gentian, mixed spice and a little oak. Becomes quite wine-like. Oily, a little lavender appears. Hints of violet too.
Finish: Long, herbal finish. Stewed fruits, rose petal jelly and a hint of fig.
Overall: A mouth-filling, intense Negroni with some truly stupendous flavour.

I was initially sceptical about this, as it's not exactly a hard cocktail to make, but the extra time in bottle really does seem to do it good. It seems more settled, more integrated. In short - delicious.
