The King's Ginger Liqueur

A very snazzy bottle of The King's Ginger liqueur from Berry Bros. & Rudd, presented at the lower strength of 29.9% ABV. As the story goes, King Edward VII's doctor was concerned about the monarch, and in 1903 asked Berry Bros. & Rudd to create something to warm him – and so the liqueur was born. This is its modern take on the historical tipple! A suitably warming sipper, or a great addition to Scotch whisky cocktails.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

A zip of lemon peel, with sweet candied ginger and fiery, drier root ginger on the finish.

Reviews for The King's Ginger Liqueur
I smell a rat in the -ve reviews
The ‘rat’? Way too many negative reviews to be genuine, and almost all are too similar!

A friend shared his hip flask of KG on the slopes last week. I have no history with the ‘old’ KG, this is my first taste. I know ginger has a kick, and yes, this does have that. And it lasts for a good few minutes. That’s just what I want. Other flavours? Maybe a little lemon, certainly not overpowering, definitely sweetness, but it’s not sickly. I’m about to buy my own bottle, so that says it all.

Bring back the original!
Brought this for years and just finished our stash so tried this new version. Just dreadful and certainly won’t buy this. Please bring back the original recipe!!!

Oh dear
Used to love the King's Ginger. Always a lovely treat. I wish I had read these reviews before I thought the only change was the bottle. Nasty. Nasty. Nasty. What a shame

Pretty good
Perhaps I’m blessed with not knowing the former incarnation, but this makes REALLY nice cocktails.

How could they do this
This has to be one of the worst ever rebranding. The new recipe is a disaster. The former glory of King's Ginger has been eviscerated by some lunatic who must have no sense of taste. If you enjoyed (as I did) the previous formulation I advise you to stay away from this parody that masquerades as King's Ginger.

Berry Brothers - I implore you to revert back to the previous wondrous formulation.

Great on the slopes with skies underboot
First taste at aged 39 a few weeks ago up a mountain the the Alps after a french skiers breakfast of pain au chocolat and croissant on the ski lift: it is throughly enjoyed by all, more so than Jäger although Jäger does have its time and place (after apres lunch).

Awful
As everyone else has stated, quite simply the worst reformulation of a previously delicious, winter-warming ginger liqueur.

How to disenfranchise your entire (and loyal) customer-base.
An extraordinary disaster in Brand management!

Dreadful
Not a patch on the original. They've ruined a classic.

BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL
Not only was the original recipe far superior to the new formula...the original bottle was unique and striking. It now looks like every other spirit/liquor on the shelves. I am trawling the Internet to find an original bottle!

A great drink ruined, loyal repeat customers alienated and Brand value trashed. Well done - how not to do it
Appalled at the taste of the new version.
Calamitous recipe change, (cheaper to produce one suspects?), a reduced 29.9% means less duty incurred and therefore cost saving / price impact.
A great drink ruined, loyal repeat customers alienated and Brand value trashed. Well done - how not to do it.
