The 12 year old jenever from Filliers distillery is a limited edition release using a malt wine made up of 50% malt and 50% rye, as opposed to their younger releases, which use maize as well. The maturation then takes place in American and Limousin oak barrels where they are blended with juniper distillates.
Nose: Chocolate oranges from your Christmas stocking, plenty of vanilla and soft oak throughout.
Palate: Light caramel, warm citrus and coriander. Aloe.
Finish: Smooth rye with underlying green notes.
Overall: A tremendous aged spirit, whisk(e)y fans should not overlook this.

Someone needs to remove that star-rating given that it's based on incorrect information. I've genuinely got no idea how they can sell a 12 year old product like this for only £40. Haters will be haters, I suppose.

I did some more research and I need to correct my review of October 13.3/4 Of this spirit is aged on American oak for 12 years and 1/4 on French limousin oak. The period of aging is the same for both parts.I stand corrected.

It's a nice jenever but there is a catch. According to Filliers' own website, only 3/4 of this spirit is 12 years old. The same is true for their 15 years old variety. According to the applicable jenever legislation, this spirit does not classify as 12 or 15 year old. The text on the bottle is misleading and this is not allowed. The saddest thing about this is that this kind of marketing is unworthy of Filliers, who are perfectly capable of producing realy good products
