aGeINg (That Boutique-y Gin Company)

Bought this as somewhat of a gift to myself, and partly for the gimmick. I like an aged gin but honestly struggle to find one that suits my particular tastes, so this was right up my street.

I intially tried the gin as is, to get a feel for it's flavour and so I knew the base point for the oak aging. It is a solid gin, and perfect on its' own. But let's be honest, that's not why we're here l.

I put the stick in, and left it for the amount of days that suited me (taking a small sip each day) until I found the perfect level of oakiness for my palate. I won't describe the taste as each person's is individual, but it does what it says on the bottle.

There is, however, an issue. Unless I'm just missing something, it is nearly impossible to get the wood stick out of the bottle. I ended up having to pour the liquid into a measuring jug, and using an old trick with a plastic bag to remove the stick.

When the gimmick is a selling point but difficult to use, that does detract somewhat. However, the end result definitely makes up for the faff

Love a gimmick so bought this, popped the charred oak in and left it for two weeks. What emerged was a woody, vanilla tinged, giving slight citrus rinds and a bit of leather. Pushes the juniper away almost into grappa territory!
