Portobello Road No. 171 Bottling Note

This gin was released by the award-winning Notting Hill bar, Portobello Star, home of the Ginsitute. This is a place where one can learn an awful lot about gin, so you would expect Portobello Road No. 171 to be rather good, and indeed it is. It's an old-style London Dry Gin, containing traditional botanicals and spices, that harks back to the gins of yesteryear.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Hot white pepper and heavy berries with plenty of juniper.

Palate: Well-integrated spice, again with a healthy dose of juniper. Soft lemon grass flavours with a hint of red berries.

Finish: Dry, fresh and cleansing citrus.

Overall: An excellent, no-nonsense gin that deserves to be a back bar staple.

Portobello Road No. 171 Gin Reviews

Not great

I'd rate this around the same as Gordon's, it's really not very good and not worth the price tag. Get a bottle of Tanqueray for around the same price and much better taste

Perfect gin for the house

Love having this gin in the house - makes the perfect gin and tonic!

Good all rounder

One of my go-to London Dry gins. Does what is says on the tin. Lovely with tonic and pretty much any citrus. No, it’s not especially exciting, but it’s outstanding for the price.

One of my five a day

Versatile Gin - try it over ice with Mediterranean Tonic and a slice of fresh orange - love it 😊

Dont think it will become my favourite gin,

Very easy on the palate. Taste of botanicals. Not too strong or bitter a taste.

Average gin with no added taste or suprises.

Another average Gin with a postcode to sell it.
Absolutely ordinary gin with another trendy label. The taste of this gin is almost exactly the same as some supermarket own brand gins. I like gin and can find nothing out of the ordinary with the taste. Based on its taste alone its just your basic gin, a good mixer masks its actually average taste.

Solid

Had a double with soda on the rocks and a couple slices of lime at The Humble Grape in Bride's Passage. Very nice.

Top stuff

Great on its own or made a lovely Gin and Tonic. I used a twist of grapefruit as described on the website. Very good.
