Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: A slight whiff of the petals here, but juniper stands at the fore.

Palate: Here's where the sweetness really kicks off! Cracked black pepper and sugared petals play off one another.

Finish: Continued peppery notes last.

Poetic License Old Tom Gin Reviews

Not a standard old Tom

Expected great things from this bottle, as their London dry is a nice bottle but the taste seems cheap and it’s difficult to match to a mixer

Maybe worth a try on offer

Odd taste for an old Tom and difficult to match with a mixer - wouldn’t pay full price

Not your normal Old Tom

The first thing you notice is the slightly disconcerting urine colour! But this is also nothing like any other Old Tom gin I've tasted. For a start off, it's very bitter, whereas you usually expect Old Toms to veer more to the sweeter side. Compared to House of Elrick Old Tom (also available here) this is a very poor second cousin, and as another reviewer has pointed out, a gin that you want to have a lot of mixer with.

Completely Overrated

Well, after all the 'hoo ha' I'd seen from reviews of this gin in different places, I was expecting an amazing, time travelling taste adventure back to the 1800's. Oh dear, since there is no one we can ask for sure to confirm how accurate the taste of that era was , I can confirm that this tastes nothing like any gin at all!!. It's a cross between some sweet/sticky spirit and a thin liqueur. It's not complete rubbish but, to add to it's issues, if you don't drink/taste it mixed with ginger ale and apple, it either won't taste of anything or it tastes awful. I cannot understand the hype. If you have to buy a bottle, buy gallons of ginger ale, cause that is ALL you will be drinking.

Now a firm favourite

I tasted this at Christmas and it is now one of my favourite gins. I love the peppery flavour along with the sweetness of rose petals and the oak cask finish gives it a hint of colour making it altogether a very enjoyable gin

A lovley gin

I tried this at Christmas and it is now one of my favourite gins. I love the peppery flavour along with the sweetness of rose petals while the oak finish adds a touch of colour.
