Brecon Botanicals Gin is a tasty Welsh gin made at the Penderyn distillery. It is based on pure grain spirit and a special selection of botanicals. The illustrations were specially engraved and re-produced for this special edition. Very interesting stuff.
Soft juniper and dried herbs on the nose. A little citrus - orange and lemon peel, with hints of saffron.
Herbal palate, with earthy juniper and Eastern spices. A touch of bergamot, clove oil and cinnamon.
Cassia bark and saffron on the tail.
So someone bought this gin without reading the label or learning anything about it, and then they proceeded to punish the distillery and Master of Malt with a one-star review. Classic. This is a fantastic gin -- and yes, there's some lovely coriander on the "pallet" [sic].
Beautiful Gin.
Smooth and lively at the same time. Juniper nose, and excellent finish. Recommended.
Bought what we thought was our favourite Bonaicals gin but when we got it home found that it was the 'Special Edition' very subtle labelling, not good, too coriander for our pallet. Is the original still made, very confusing. Not happy with the brand.
I love the martini it makes. Just a rinse of dry vermouth, lemon peel squeezed over it and chucked away. It's an interesting flavour experience. Even when it loses its chill it's good- develops a certain richness. At the last drop I noticed it was slightly viscose; which was pleasant bonus. Straight, it tastes classically 'gin'. Slightly sweet, bit of liquorice (possibly that's the 'vodka' base), citrus, juniper, hint of pepper? Balanced. Warming. Great with Fever Tree. It's 43% and my local Tesco were punting it out at £17.
