The ‘Origin’ range of London Dry Gins is a unique proposition for the discerning gin-lover. Each one is distilled using juniper gathered from one single location – in this instance from Meppel in The Netherlands. This allows one to explore the effects of terroir (or place of origin) on the final gin, highlighting how location, climate, soil type and myriad other conditions have affected the juniper.
Each gin is distilled from English wheat spirit and Juniper. No other botanicals are added. If you wish to transform the spirit into a more traditional, more rounded Gin, every bottle of Origin comes with a 10ml vial of cold-distilled additional botanicals (Coriander, Fresh Lemon Peel, Bitter Orange Peel, Cardamom, Angelica, Cassia, Liquorice, Cubeb Berries and Camomile) which can be added to the larger bottle.
Tobacco and Calves Leather, with an earthy, Coffee-Rich Finish. Much more savoury and masculine than the Arezzo.

I first came across this in a local restaurant (run by a couple of Dutchmen) and thought it was great - only later learning about the "single estate" gin idea through the Master of Malt website. Having now tried 4 or 5 of Ben's Origins gins, this is probably, by a narrow margin, still my favourite. I only noticed the tasting notes on the bottle's reverse label after sampling the gin, and can honestly say, they are spot on. It is a revelation how much variation there is between the origin gins, even without botanicals. On a cautionary note, I would council against adding the optional bottle of botanicals to the whole bottle. They are quite strongly flavoured, and while not unpleasant, I do feel that you lose the whole point of the Origins range.
