Monkey 47 Bottling Note

An unusual gin from the Black Forest in Germany, Monkey 47 contains a unique ingredient. No, not that! Lingonberries! The 47 comes from the number of botanicals that go into this unique gin, and the fact it's bottled at a healthy 47%. It seems that the botanicals speak for themselves, as the gin has received bucketfuls of critical acclaim. Some say less is more, not for Monkey 47!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Oh there is a lot going on here... woody, vegetable smells under pin fresh grassy citrus notes and botanical sweetness, like a pine forest after the rain.

Palate: Predictably complex, this is a robust and powerful gin with plenty of spice, fruit and herb flavours. It's very well structured, and difficult to unpick but a citrus fresh start segues into pine and wood notes for a drying finish.

Finish: Wooded and reassuringly heavy.

Overall: A unique gin, that is crying out to be made into a Martini. It'll need an equally robust vermouth though.

Monkey 47 Dry Gin Reviews

Nice one

Pretty much the standard commercially available, "crafty" gins should aim too. Perky, tasty, and well delivered.

Drink neat

The only gin that I have come across that is delicious neat!
Also superb…
50ml Monkey 47, 100 ml Fever Tree Mediterranean tonic over ice garnished with a slice of fresh grapefruit, a strawberry and a raspberry!

Unusual, but pretty good.

Walked by (and then turned round and went back into) a gin bar in an alleyway. Told the barman my favourite gin, and said I'd like to try a new one - and he recommended this. Definite sweet (but not overly so) and citrus start. Kind of get a pine finish. Not as much juniper as I'd normall like - but overall, fresh and moderately complex. I'll be drinking it again.

Not enough juniper

Wonderful nose, decent palate, not enough juniper, overpriced.

Top taste with a slice of pink grapefruit

Not sure why someone has said this isn't gin, it most definitely is.
With a nice quality tonic and a slice of pink grapefruit on a warm summers day it goes down easily... Too easily, you will never taste all of the 47 botanicals used but it is a fabulous taste and very enjoyable

Top 5 gins

Top quality can’t get better than this.

Smooth and dialed back on the pine (Juniper berries) so the other delicate botanicals come forward.

Monkey 47 is my new favorite hot weather gin.

Wow

Not going to get bored with this, it’s different to most other Gins but something new to discover with every sip. Bad news is it’s only 500ml so not going to last long

Yummy

This isn't gin, but it's absolutely delicious.
Interesting with ice....and packs a punch.
Wonderful with tonic.
It's hard to see how this could not be labelled as gin, but it really isn't. So don't think about it as such.
Just enjoy it.
