The best London Dry Gin in the world? That's what the IWSC thought, awarding it The London Dry Gin Trophy for 2017!
An independent bottling of fantastic Hernö from That Boutique-y Gin Company! The Swedish distillers have won just about every award under the sun, with this small batch gin building on a couple of their most successful and popular releases. To their classic London Dry recipe, they added red rose petals (dialling back the meadowsweet and lingonberries to accommodate this new floral influence) before blending with some of their juniper cask gin for luxurious texture.
Batch 2 is a release of 1,029 bottles.
Lemon balm and creamy juniper, followed by waves of pine and rose petal.
Liquorice root, vanilla pod, jasmine, mint leaf and Turkish Delight.
Sweetly floral, with a spicy bite of stem ginger.
Deliciously well-rounded and complex.
$30.90 - $57.29
Sadly, I really can't taste rose at all, hence dropping a star. It is however a delicious and mouth-filling gin that I will happily drink more of. It doesn't go into my "top three" and I probably won't buy it again, but I will certainly enjoy finishing the bottle.
After having tried the Hernö Swedish Excellence gin and the Juniper Cask Aged gin, I was already impressed by the quality of the Swedish distillery. The base spirit used for this Swedish Rose Gin is the same as for the Juniper Cask Aged gin (30 days on juniper wooden casks), but then they added a seperate distillate of rose petals. They maintain their unique gin profile but the floral touch lifts this gin to a different level. Really great and 5/5 stars!
I was so excited to try this gin and so disappointed. The flavour was so subtle it could have been any old gin. Gutted!
Pink gin with this is sensational, oriental - rather like Turkish delight. Also tried with a crushed cardamom pod. Outstanding with Fever Tree elderflower tonic. A great discovery. For a sour I used pomegranate molasses and fresh mint muddled like a julep.
Goes to show, doesn't it. The freshness here is absolutely incredible. I struggled at first to find the trace of the Juniper cask - but it's apparent that the spirit is very slightly tinted if you look at it against a white background. Then it all falls into place, and the 'oakiness' (yeah yeah I know) makes itself known. Incredible gin from an incredible distillery.
