Hernö Old Tom Gin Bottling Note

From the Swedish Hernö distillers comes a sweet, lip-smacking Old Tom Gin. They use the same botanical selection as their Hernö Dry Gin for this, although they've dialled up the amount of meadowsweet used. After distillation, they add a touch of honey and sugar, giving it the classic sweetness you look for in a traditional Old Tom Gin.

It's got a cat's face on the bottle, harking back to how Old Tom Gin got its name - the tom cat-shaped plaques outside London gin houses from the olden days, where you'd put a coin in the cat's mouth and the bartender would dispense a shot of gin from the cat's paw.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Sweet and subtly grassy at first. Herbaceous notes of cassia and coriander start to develop after a minute or two.

Palate: A strong backbone of pine resin and chewy juniper, with honey'd sweetness and a touch of lemon zest following it up.

Finish: Fresh vanilla and juicy berries.

Hernö Old Tom Gin Reviews

Perfect neat

This is my favourite gin of all time. I love to drink it neat but it also makes great cocktails. Would recommend this to all gin-drinkers. Good for entry level as well as seasoned :)

Lots of hype

Loads of hype and awards - this had to be tried. Good but there's better UK gins in my opinion.

Very, very good.

I can feel pine resin and juniperus with a touch of sweetness. Very tasty for Gin Tonic. Some drops of lemon can enhance smell and taste.

Tastes as good as it looks.

Delicious gin! Received as a birthday gift and it’s going down a treat. I’m a gin lover, but have yet to really explore the Old Tom style in much detail, I have to say that this is lovely. Slight sweetness and pine flavours. Plus, gorgeous packaging!

So good. Move over monkey 47. This is less in your face with super delicate flavours that really don't need to have any tonic added. Super smooth. Hedonistic.

Genuinely delicious, great balance of complex flavours. Best Old Tom gin

Simply outstanding gin. I've not had a better old Tom. Such a great set of flavours for a G&T but highly drinkable neat, which I find very rare.

The most deliciously interesting gin I have ever tasted

Such and interesting tastes to earthy almost as though it has been infused with wild truffles and moss! Simply delicious in my opinion but if you like a simple dry gin I would not recommend.

Received this as a gift, and there honestly isn't a nicer Old Tom. I don't believe you always 'get what you pay for' in the booming boutique gin industry, but here I can justify every penny. Full flavours, not too sweet. Paired with Walter Gregors tonic this makes a wonderful Nordic sparse and soft G&T. One of my favourite combos.

Very good

For me to give a drink five stars it really has to blow me away. This gin comes very close, but I'll save the five stars in case I come across an Old Tom that's even better or more bang for the buck.

Great flavor, further enhanced with a touch of honey. This gin goes to waste in a cocktail with other sweetened ingredients, so I prefer this on the rocks. Sure, it's great in drinks too, but I'll pour in something dry and cheaper when I crave a Foghorn.
