Pickering's Gin is an award-winning brand from Edinburgh, Scotland. It was launched in 2013 by Marcus Pickering and Matthew Gammell. The distillery is in Summerhall, at the heart of Scotland's capital. This brand stands out for blending heritage with innovation.
Heritage
Pickering's Gin uses a Bombay recipe from July 17, 1947. This recipe was a secret for over 66 years. It was then revived at the Summerhall Distillery. The recipe includes nine botanicals: juniper, coriander, cardamom, angelica, fennel, anise, lemon, lime, and cloves. These are measured by hand for consistency.
The distillery, Summerhall, has its own history. It was part of the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies. Now, it's a creative hub in Edinburgh and home to Pickering's.
Innovation
Pickering's Gin is known for its history and new ideas. They have made a variety of gins that appeal to many tastes. They have gained attention worldwide.
One innovation is their Gin Baubles, gin-filled Christmas decorations. They also have Pickering's Gin Jolly Botanicals. These are garnishes for gin and tonics. This shows their focus on the whole gin experience.
Distillation Process
The gin is made in a small workshop at Summerhall. They use a 500-litre copper still, nicknamed Gert. The distillation is carefully controlled. The team tests the spirit constantly for quality. The botanicals are infused slowly in a bain-marie. This makes a smoother gin.
