Montebello Rum

Montebello Rum Distillery, in Guadeloupe, is a hub of history and skill in rum-making. Founded in the late 19th century, it is known worldwide for its excellent rums. Montebello's story is one of tradition, innovation, and passion.

The Origins and Heritage

Montebello began in Petit-Bourg, Guadeloupe. The Dormoy family started it in the 1930s. They had a strong background in sugar and rum production. This connection with the land shapes Montebello's character. The distillery blends modern methods with Caribbean rum traditions.

The Process of Rum Making

The rum-making is a mix of old and new ways. It starts with sugar cane from Guadeloupe's rich soil. The cane is crushed to get juice, which is then fermented. Montebello carefully watches this process. The fermented juice is distilled in copper stills. This is key to the rum's flavour. The rum then ages in oak barrels. This ageing adds complexity to the rum.

Montebello has many types of rum. Each has its own style.

White Rum

Fresh and full of life. This rum shows the purity of Montebello's process.

Aged Rum

These rums age in oak barrels. They have a range of flavours, from vanilla to spices.

Agricultural Rum

Made directly from sugar cane juice. This gives a grassy, strong flavour.

Limited Editions and Special Blends

Montebello also makes unique rums. These are popular with experts and collectors.

Sustainability and Community Engagement

The distillery is committed to being eco-friendly. They use sustainable farming and production. They also support the local community in Guadeloupe.

The Montebello Experience

Visitors to Montebello can see how rum is made. They can watch from cane crushing to barrel ageing. The distillery offers tastings of its various rums. There's also a shop to buy their rums.

Global Recognition

Montebello's quality rums have won international awards. Montebello is more than a rum maker. It holds Guadeloupe's cultural heritage. Its rums reflect the island's land, people, and traditions. A visit to the distillery is a deep dive into Caribbean rum culture.
