Haig is one of the grand old names of Scotch whisky. There’s a reference to Robert Haig being summoned before the Kirk Session in 1655 for distilling on the Sabbath.

In 1824, a descendant, John Haig, built a giant distillery at Windygates in the Lowlands which was one of the first in Scotland to use a Stein still, a continuous still that was a pre-cursor to the more famous Coffey Still. This distillery, now known as Cameronbridge, is still going to this day. In 1877, John Haig & Co merged with five whisky companies, forming Distillers Company Ltd - an organisation that would eventually morph into Diageo. John Haig was one of the directors. The Haig name was used on a series of blended whiskies including the famous Dimple - which came in a distinctive dimpled bottle.
