A well-regarded rhum agricole producer from Martinique, Habitation Saint-Étienne creates both aged and unaged products with a focus on interesting cask finishes. The distillery was built on the foundations of La Maugée, a 19th-century sugar factory. It was Amédée Aubéry who transformed the sugar factory into an agricultural distillery in 1882, increasing the production capacity and adding a magnificent façade punctuated by 28 arched windows.
In 1909, the Simonnet family took the reigns and oversaw the distillery's operations until its decline in the late 80s. The estate was then revived in 1994 by Yves and José Hayot, who restored the heritage house and relaunched the brand we know and love today.
