Brugal was founded by Andrés Brugal Montener in 1888. Andrés was a Spanish émigré in Cuba, and it was in Cuba that he learnt the methods of rum production. After moving to Puerto Plata, a province in the Dominican Republic, he set up Brugal & Co. Don Andrés' grandchildren built the company into one of the largest rum producers in the world, with five generations of the Brugal family driving the rum forward over 130 years. Locally sourced ingredients are used to produce American oak aged expressions and a famed white rum too.
