First appearing on the market in 1914, Alnwick Rum is named after the eponymous Northumbrian town where it was first blended. The history of Alnwick Brewery dates back to the late 1700s. A special rum recipe was created at the Alnwick Brewery, though this recipe was lost, so the rum went out of circulation. The brewery was demolished in the 1980s.
The story doesn’t end there, as the recipe was recovered, so production recommenced. The brand was acquired by Harry Hotspur Holdings in 2013, and still uses the original processes to maintain the historic essence of the rum. There are plans to rebuild the original premises to blend and bottle in Alnwick once again, but for now they are based in The Netherlands.
