Welsh whiskies are sweet, fruity and quite thick. Sometimes exhibiting tropical fruits and herbal notes, oak and chocolate.
At this moment in time, Penderyn is the only distillery in Wales. It was established in 2000 by the Welsh Whisky Company Ltd. Penderyn has produced some smooth, easy-drinking malt whiskies, all as a recently released sherry wood and a peated expression. The peated offering is distilled from unpeated barley and the presence of phenols is solely down to the wood the whisky was matured in, the cask having previously held maturing Islay whisky.
