Unfortunately, we can't ship Pierre De Segonzac XO Sélection des Anges to the United States at the moment, but we've got some friends who can.
XO Grande Champagne Cognac from Pierre de Sedonzac's selection. The name of this expression is of course a reference to the Angel's Share, the romanticised evaporation of spirits which takes place as the drink matured in oak barrels. Thankfully, the angels have left the Cognac blenders some excellent eaux-de-vie to work with...
Nose: Nutty, oak-y and packed with plump raisin.
Palate: Big ol' wafts of rancio goodness here - lovely vegetal richness paired with fig and chocolate.
Finish: More chocolate and dried fruit carry on long on to the finish.

At first, a bit dull and conservative. It did open up on warming up the glass and third and fourth pours. Don't judge it too quickly. Let it open up and talk to you.

Please close your eyes and enjoy. Actually one of the best cognac I have test. And a real cognac from Pierre FERRAND familly estate :-) A good choice.

It's the first time that I saw this producer and that's the reason why I decided to try it ! The discover was fantastic : smooth and delicate cognac with notes of matured fruits such as Apricot or Prune. I enjoyed it with a simple apple pie :)

There is very little Grande Champagne florality here. Feel like the producer was too free with the added sugar and boise. Having tasted many XO-grade and above cognacs now, this is just flat and lifeless, heavy and dull. Maybe someone made a mistake at the bottling plant? Pierre de Segonzac's "Extra" expression, while much more expensive, is a better example of what mature Grande Champagne cognac can be. In this price range, I've had good luck with Ragnaud-Sabourin and Jean Fillioux.
