Cristal was created in 1876 for Czar Alexander II, who was particularly paranoid about bombs. This is why Cristal bottles have a flat bottom, as opposed to the normal heavily curved bottom one finds on most champagne bottles. The 2004 is a great vintage, and contains 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay.
Nose: Fresh zest with grassy notes and a hint of earth, balanced by softer fruit.
Palate: Full, creamy. Concentrated stone fruits: nectarine, fresh apricot and peach.
Finish: Soft but with a sophisticated light acidity.
Overall: An excellent champagne that will improve with age.
