Continuing our week of gin, we’ve got a great competition for all you gin lovers out there: a chance to win a VIP trip to the Boatyard Distillery in Northern Ireland. Read on, but only if you’re interested.
Located on the banks of the gorgeous Lough Erne, one of Northern Ireland’s largest lakes, the Boatyard Distillery was founded by ex-Glenmorangie employee Joe McGirr. McGirr was brought up on a dairy farm in nearby Enniskillen and he’d long dreamed of opening a distillery back home.
The Boatyard story
Following a stint at the London Distillery Company where he learnt how to make gin, in 2016, the Boatyard Distillery was born, named after a disused boatyard that it’s built upon.
The team do things a little differently, producing their own base spirit (most producers buy it in) from Irish wheat and use only organic botanicals. The range includes a Double Gin, so-called because the juniper berries are included twice in the distillation process, a sweet Old Tom gin, and a vodka made from Irish wheat.
It’s a real family business run by Joe and his sister Theresa. His brother Brian runs the farm while his elder sister Marie writes poetry that goes on the labels.
Just buy one of these, a you could win a trip to visit the Boatyard Distillery
