Ho ho ho! The mince pies are multiplying, and the festive panic is brewing gently under the surface. It’s time for another #WhiskySanta Super Wish!
This week’s whisky is an absolute belter. Even more of a belter than my famous large buckled belt. It’s the Laphroaig 34 Year Old – The Ian Hunter Story Book 5: Enduring Spirit. A legendary Islay dram worth a whopping £1,200 (although currently on a stupendus Black Friday deal if you wanted to guarantee yourself a bottle…), and it could be yours quicker than you can say “peat reek and sea spray”.
Before we get swept away, a hearty toast to @water_of_life_reviews on Instagram, whose ‘Super Wish’ was granted last week — a Tamnavulin 31 Year Old 1991 Gordon & MacPhail worth £725! That’s a festive haul if ever there was one.
Meet the Super Wish: Laphroaig 34 Year Old – The Ian Hunter Story Book 5: Enduring Spirit
Back to this week’s treasure. Laphroaig fans know what they’re in for: peat and power – albeit beautifully tempered by age. A hit of pure Hebridean spirit. Even I, with all my Christmas magic, couldn’t bottle this kind of character.
This is the fifth and final chapter in Laphroaig’s Ian Hunter Story, celebrating the distillery’s last family owner. Hunter was the man who championed the famously bold, medicinal profile of the Islay whisky from establishing the malting floors used to this day, to introducing American Oak bourbon barrels for maturation.
This staggering 34 year old single malt was matured in both first-fill bourbon American oak barrels and Pedro Ximénez hogheads. It’s sweet and spicy, with the characteristic Laphroaig smoke and hints of cold barbecue ash kiln wall. What more could you possibly need to know before placing it on your wish list?! Well it’s housed inside a book. That’s pretty awesome too.
How to wish for #WhiskySanta’s Super Wish
Making a Super Wish works just like the usual Ask #WhiskySanta fun on social media, except this time, someone will definitely have a wish granted for this particular – remarkable – bottle.
- Instagram: Head to Master of Malt’s Stories, grab the Super Wish post, and share it to your own with #WhiskySanta.
- Twitter (X) or Facebook: Hit the big red Ask #WhiskySanta button on the Laphroaig 34 Year Old page. Type your wish, make it public, and you’re all set.
Wishes close at 23:59 GMT on Thursday, 20 November, and the winner will be revealed on Friday, 21 November. Don’t hang about, my reindeer don’t do overtime.
And remember, you can still wish for anything else on Master of Malt, too. I’ll be granting wishes every single day until Christmas Eve.
#WhiskySanta
